The Armstrong OPTI-VISOR is an optimization solution for chilled water plant systems that saves energy by coordinating system components. Through a data exchange with the building automation system (BAS) the OPTI-VISOR raises plant performance to ultra-efficient levels.
WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCES
Managers at Whirlpool wanted to improve the energy efficiency of a stand-alone central chiller plant.
Operators were able to view operating stats in the time periods when the BAS accepted the OPTI-VISOR recommendations. Chiller plant efficiency improved by 66%, reducing energy consumption 763,000 kwh in the first year. 27% of the efficiency improvement is directly attributable to the OPTI-VISOR.
CASE STUDY | Improving Datacenter Cooling Efficiency for a Major Online Retailer
A major controls contractor approached Armstrong for assistance in improving the cooling efficiency of a data center for a prominent online retailer.
It was estimated that the system could be improved to an efficiency level of 0.45 kW per ton.
When the OPTI-VISOR installation was complete, the installation improved the HVAC efficiency to 0.38 kW per ton — 15% better than the original estimate.
The retrofit project was cash-positive within two months and the savings continue to accumulate.
